Maintenance instructions for K&N air filters: Mechanical cleaning of the filter - either with a brush or by tapping out the filter. Do not blow out with compressed air, as it may damage the filter. Then spray the filter with K&N cleaner. Do not use aggressive substances (gasoline, thinners...), as they will damage the filter. After 10-15 minutes, rinse the filter with water. If the shape of the filter allows, rinse in the opposite direction to the airflow. Let the washed filter air dry. After drying, treat the filter with K&N oil. Do not use any oils other than those from K&N. Once the oil sets, simply re-install the filter. The maintenance interval can vary greatly depending on driving conditions, from 100 km (in very dusty environments) to 15,000 kilometers under normal road use.
