Vario side cases for BMW R1300GS 2023+

The design of the Vario saddlebags and the Vario top case has been completely reworked. Anodized aluminum strips on the outer sides of the bags, as well as on the outer side and lid of the Vario top case, not only provide a robust base but also seamlessly integrate with the design of the new BMW R 1300 GS along with the black plastic cover.

The Vario bags and the Vario top case with integrated charging options and lighting, plus integration into the remote central locking system, provide maximum comfort.
In terms of technology and functionality, the new bag system sets new standards. Another interesting feature is that the new system is now electrified. From now on, electronic devices such as phones, tablets, or laptops can be charged in the left Vario bag. There is a USB-A power port allowing charging through the vehicle’s electrical system with a power output of up to 15 W (5 V/3 A). Another USB-A port is located in the top case. Additionally, thanks to the integrated lighting in the Vario bags, loading and unloading at night is very convenient.

Another innovation is that all three Vario bags are integrated into the standard remote central locking of the new BMW R 1300 GS. The Vario bag system also includes mechanical keys, which can be used to lock and unlock the bags – for instance, in case the remote control is lost.

Continuous adjustment of the internal volume for optimal utilization of all storage space.
The volume setting of the Vario bags and the Vario top case can now be continuously adjusted with a manual knob (previously in two steps). This means that the new BMW R 1300 GS is only as wide or tall as necessary considering the required storage space.

In total, the new Vario bag system offers a capacity of up to 97 liters. By expanding the bags, the storage volume increases from about 49 l by a maximum of about 5.5 l for each of them. The storage volume of the top case increases from 28 to a maximum of 36 l.

Additional luggage can be stored on the side bags and the top case using practical mounting loops.
For example, a BMW 7 helmet can be stored in the Vario bag system (left Vario bag and Vario top case), and a BMW GS helmet fits in the Vario top case. The maximum load for one bag is 10 kg on each side, while the maximum load for the Vario top case is set at 6 kg. In total, a load of 26 kg can be carried.

In addition, luggage can also be stored on the outer side of the Vario bags and on the Vario top case. Up to 1 kg can be attached to the side of each bag and an additional 2 kg to the top case. We recommend using tension straps for securing additional luggage. For this purpose, attachment eyes are located on the lid of the Vario top case. Attachment eyes are also on the sides of the Vario bags.

Practical internal bags Vario are available as original BMW Motorrad accessories.
As part of BMW Motorrad Original Accessories, additional internal Vario bags are available for the Vario bag system of the new BMW R 1300 GS. The volume of the internal bags is as follows:

- left bag: 21.5–28.9 l

- right bag: 21.3–26.8 l

- top case: 24.8–33 l

For each Vario bag, there is a large main internal bag and a smaller additional bag that can be freely placed on top of the main bag in the bag. The additional bag can also be used as a small handbag, for example, for a stop at a café. The main bag for the left Vario bag has a padded compartment for electronic devices with a cable outlet to the USB charging port. The internal bag of the Vario top case consists of a large main bag with a volume of up to 33 l.
